On sait que les informations sensorielles entrantes peuvent affecter la structure du cerveau. Ce principe vaut pour l’alimentation et la fonction de mastication, une fonction indispensable pour obtenir les nutriments nécessaires à notre fonctionnement et à notre santé. Cependant cette étude montre que la fonction, contrôlée par le tronc cérébral et influencée par la zone corticale masticatoire (CMA) est stimulée par les stimuli sensoriels que sont les « entrées alimentaires ».

Chez les personnes ayant une prédisposition génétique à une pression oculaire plus élevée, une consommation quotidienne de caféine trop élevée, peut multiplier par plus de 3 le risque de glaucome, conclut cette étude internationale multicentrique, menée à la Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York). C’est la première étude à démontrer une interaction diététique-génétique dans le glaucome. Les résultats publiés dans la revue Ophthalmology suggère aux personnes à antécédents familiaux de glaucome de réduire leur consommation de caféine.
Cette équipe de la Wake Forest School of Medicine (Caroline du Nord) travaille sur un microbiome moins connu, le microbiome mammaire, la communauté des micro-organismes (bactéries, champignons..) qui vivent dans les tissus mammaires. Ces travaux présentés dans la revue Cancer Research, révèlent que l'alimentation peut modifier non seulement le microbiome mammaire, mais exercer également une influence significative sur le risque de cancer et les tumeurs cancéreuses du sein.
Des scientifiques du Max-Planck-Gesellschaft décryptent les fonctions des cellules nerveuses du nerf vague, une voie clé entre l’intestin et le cerveau, 2 organes qui communiquent afin de réguler la satiété et la glycémie au cours de la consommation alimentaire. Cependant, ces chercheurs font une découverte surprenante : toutes les cellules nerveuses n’ont pas les mêmes fonctions. Bien que regroupées dans le même centre de contrôle, elles innervent différentes régions de l'intestin et contrôlent de manière spécifique la satiété et la glycémie.

Retrouver le contrôle glycémique par la perte de poids et maintenir ensuite un poids de santé reste une méthode clé pour parvenir à une rémission ou une meilleure gestion du diabète de type 2.
