Les personnes qui prennent un dîner essentiellement constitué de légumes et de fruits pourraient réduire leur risque de maladie cardiaque de 10%, conclut cette étude de cardiologues de l'Université de médecine de Harbin (Chine). Des données publiées dans le Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism qui confirment que des apports trop élevés ou réguliers de glucides raffinés et de viande grasse au dîner sont associés à un risque cardiaque plus élevé.
S’il n’est pas encore possible d’inverser l’ensemble du processus de vieillissement, il apparaît ici envisageable d’inverser l'âge épigénétique en adhérant à un régime et à un mode de vie appropriés. En d’autres termes, adopter un mode de vie très sains pourrait gommer voire effacer certaines des modifications épigénétiques qui résultent de différents facteurs environnementaux de vieillissement. Cette étude pilote, publiée dans la revue Aging, et menée auprès de participants âgés en bonne santé, montre qu’un tel changement de vie, même à l’âge avancé peut concrètement faire gagner à notre ADN du moins, jusqu’à plusieurs années de vie…
Il s’agit d’un petit essai clinique contrôlé randomisé mené auprès de 43 hommes adultes en bonne santé, âgés de 50 à 72 ans, invités à suivre un programme de 8 semaines comportant des conseils sur l'alimentation, le sommeil, l'exercice et la relaxation, ainsi qu’une supplémentation en probiotiques et phytonutriments.
La science et cette équipe de nutritionnistes du Pennington Biomedical Research Center (Bârton-Rouge) en particulier, se rapprochent d'un régime optimal pour la santé métabolique sans privation ou restriction calorique : il s’agit plutôt ici d’une restriction en méthionine via la caséine oxydée et ce régime apparaît aussi efficace qu’un régime alimentaire globalement restreint en méthionine. Cette recherche, publiée dans la revue iScience, reprend le concept de restriction en acides aminés souffrés, avec l’objectif d’aboutir à des aliments consommables : car les aliments à faible teneur en méthionine ont très mauvais goût !

Des résultats qui confirment les avantages des protéines végétales plutôt qu’animales contre le risque cardiaque et cela, quels que soient l’âge et le poids corporel et même indépendamment de certains facteurs de mode de vie, pourtant clivants pour la santé, comme le tabagisme et la consommation d'alcool.
Consommer l'équivalent d'une tasse de légumes verts feuillus par jour permet de réduire le risque de maladie cardiaque et favorise la force musculaire. Alors que les effets vasculaires du nitrate inorganique, étudiés dans les essais cliniques, sont toujours discutés, cette équipe de l’Edith Cowan University (Australie) revient au naturel en montrant les bienfaits d’un apport alimentaire quotidien en légumes à feuilles, riches en nitrates.
Cette étude du Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (Berlin) révèle comment l’augmentation des concentrations de sodium dans le sang amène les mitochondries, les centrales électriques des cellules à produire temporairement moins d'adénosine triphosphate (ATP), une molécule indispensable à leur fonctionnement.
