La consommation régulière de boissons avec sucres ajoutés est liée à un déséquilibre lipidique et donc à un risque accru de maladie cardiovasculaire, confirme cette étude de l'Université Tufts de Boston. Consommer ne serait-ce que l’équivalent d’une canette par jour entraîne une réduction des niveaux de « bon » cholestérol mais une augmentation des triglycérides. Deux marqueurs bien connus de risque cardiovasculaire, rappellent ces cardiologues qui publient dans le Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA).
Alors que l’AVC est la deuxième cause de décès dans le monde, ces données permettent d’y voir plus clair dans le lien entre le régime alimentaire et le risque de chaque type d’accident vasculaire cérébral. En effet, jusqu'à présent, la plupart des études ont examiné l'association entre l'alimentation et l'AVC, tous types confondus. Cette nouvelle étude, publiée dans l’European Heart Journal et menée auprès de plus de 400.000 Européens a bien distingué AVC ischémique et AVC hémorragique.

L’infection à Clostridium difficile est l’une des infections les plus courantes et les plus sévères. Apprendre qu’elle prospère avec un régime riche en protéines et en matières grasses a donc des implications évidentes, en particulier pour les personnes qui reçoivent un diagnostic d'infection. Cette étude, présentée dans la revue mSystems, de l'American Society for Microbiology, montre ainsi que des souris nourries avec un régime riche en protéines et en graisses sont plus susceptibles de contracter une infection mortelle à C.
En décrivant ce cercle vicieux chez les femmes, entre problèmes de sommeil, mauvaise alimentation et risque cardiométabolique, cette équipe de l'Université Columbia suggère aussi qu’intervenir sur le sommeil permettrait de réduire la sévérité du surpoids et du risque cardiaque. Un axe d’intervention rarement envisagé pour améliorer la santé cardiaque des femmes, documenté ici dans le Journal of the American Heart Association.
Ce composé naturel, l’indole, dérivé d’un pigment bleu des légumes crucifères pourrait permettre de lutter plus efficacement contre la stéatose hépatique non alcoolique. Cette étude menée par des experts en agronomie du Texas et publiée dans la revue Hepatology, suggère que ce composé qui réduit l'inflammation et les dépôts graisseux dans le foie va conduire à de nouveaux traitements contre la maladie hépatique.
La pratique de l’exercice fait partie des principes de base d’un mode de vie sain et les directives recommandent 150 mn d’activité physique modérée par semaine. Cependant la dépendance à l'exercice existe aussi. Cette étude d’une équipe de l'Université Anglia Ruskin (ARU) est la première à révéler une drôle d’association : la dépendance à l'exercice est presque 4 fois plus fréquente chez les personnes souffrant d'un trouble de l'alimentation (TCA).
Le stress donne-t-il faim ou coupe-t-il la faim, s’interrogeait récemment une équipe de l'Université du Texas (Houston). Ces chercheurs de l’Université d'Osaka identifient à leur tour un mécanisme par lequel le stress aigu ou la perspective d’un stress peuvent en l’occurrence supprimer l'appétit. Est associée à ce mécanisme, une altération de l'activité neuronale dans le pôle frontal, une zone cérébrale impliquée à la fois dans les fonctions de réflexion et de planification et le contrôle cognitif de l'appétit.
On sait qu’un régime à base de plantes contribue à réduire le risque de maladie cardiaque. Cette équipe de la Penn State revient sur un aspect encore peu étudié de ces régimes à tendance végétarienne : leur teneur réduite en acides aminés souffrés au contraire des aliments riches en protéines, tels que les viandes, les produits laitiers, les noix et le soja.
