Cette équipe de l'Université de Pennsylvanie montre que le foie pourrait contribuer au risque d'Alzheimer en ne fournissant plus des lipides clés et nécessaires au cerveau, les plasmalogènes dont des niveaux trop réduits sont déjà documentés comme associés à un risque accru de maladie d'Alzheimer. Des conclusions présentées lors de la conférence internationale de l'Association Alzheimer AAIC.
Les plasmalogènes sont des lipides créés dans le foie et dispersés dans le sang sous forme de lipoprotéines, qui transportent également le cholestérol et d'autres lipides vers et à partir des cellules et des tissus, dans tout le corps y compris le cerveau.
Les rhumatismes, une des pathologies les plus fréquentes, touchent plus de 20 millions de concitoyens en France 1. L’obésité est aussi un fléau très fréquent en France, qui concerne plus de 17 % des adultes 2, avec un impact certain sur les rhumatismes. En effet, une des causes et conséquences les plus fréquentes d’arthrose est clairement le surpoids. D’ailleurs, la perte de poids fait partie de sa prise de sa charge.
On sait déjà que les acides gras oméga-3 améliorent la santé cérébrale chez les enfants et les adultes, cette recherche de l’Université du Massachusetts Lowell illustre avec une supplémentation en omega-3, le moyen par le biais de l’alimentation, de prévenir les comportements négatifs, agressifs, voire « criminels ». Une étude présentée dans la revue Aggressive Behaviour qui contribue à éclairer l’interaction complexe de la biologie et de l'environnement social sur l’humeur et le comportement.
On croit la connaître. Mais en fait, l’ostéoporose est si souvent négligée qu’il ne peut s’agir que de méconnaissance. Passée inaperçue tant qu’il ne s’agit que de Z Score ou de T Score sur un compte-rendu, elle ne préoccupe qu’au stade post-fracturaire. Or malheureusement, non seulement la fracture spontanée est une façon de rentrer dans la dépendance ou les complications mais chez le sujet âgé, c’est un puissant indicateur de haut risque de mortalité.
Les bénéfices des antioxydants des fruits sont réaffirmés, ici en prévention du cancer du sein, par cette étude de la Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, présentée dans l’Internal Journal of Cancer. La consommation élevée de fruits et légumes, soit plus de 5 portions par jour, pourrait réduire le risque de cancer du sein de 11% par rapport à une consommation deux fois moins élevée.
La consommation de café -ou de caféine- a-t-elle un effet réducteur sur la prise alimentaire ? En d’autres termes, le café est-il un bon coupe-faim ou une aide à la perte de poids ? Cette étude de l’Université Suny à Buffalo (NY), publiée dans le Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics fait le point : elle soutient cet effet coupe-faim mais seulement de manière trop limitée et trop transitoire pour avoir un effet significatif sur le maintien ou la perte de poids.
Cet effet perturbant de la consommation d’aliments à base de viande de bœuf transformée ou séchée, et comportant des nitrates, est révélé par une étude de l’Université Johns Hopkins Médecine et documenté dans la revue Molecular Psychiatry. En pratique, consommer régulièrement ce type d’aliments pourrait perturber l’humeur au point de présenter des épisodes maniaco-dépressifs. Des données en forme de signal d’alarme qui apportent une nouvelle raison de limiter ce type de produits dans notre alimentation.
Oui, la consommation de poisson peut prolonger la vie : grâce à leurs omega-3, ces acides gras essentiels et dont l’apport alimentaire est généralement insuffisant. Pourtant, leur consommation est définitivement associée à un risque réduit de mortalité prématurée. Cette très large étude, menée sur plus de 400.000 participants et présentée dans le Journal of Internal Medicine, reprécise tous les bénéfices de ces acides gras à longue chaîne :
Les chercheurs de la Zhejiang University (Chine) ont suivi durant 16 ans, 240.729 hommes et 180.580 femmes et, durant cette période, 54.230 hommes et 30.882 femmes sont décédés.
En cas de déshydratation, notre cognition sèche aussi, montre cette étude du Georgia Institute of Technology sur la déshydratation. Chacun connait l’effet « mirage » dans le désert et sait que la déshydratation extrême perturbe la pensée et l'esprit. Cette étude, présentée dans la revue Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise s’est concentrée sur la déshydratation aiguë, la déshydratation que chacun peut éprouver pendant l'effort ou à la chaleur, par opposition à la déshydratation chronique, qcausée par une maladie ou un trouble ; L'étude montre que seulement 2 heures de travaux de jardinage au soleil sans boire peuvent suffire à émousser la concentration.
Les régimes alimentaires de perte de poids et à faible teneur en glucides peuvent améliorer le flux sanguin en seulement 4 semaines, en particulier chez les femmes, révèle cette étude de l’Université du Missouri-Columbia. Des conclusions d’importance alors que la rigidité artérielle conduit directement à la maladie cardiaque. Ces données, présentées dans la revue Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism, précisent néanmoins les effets de tels régimes chez les hommes et chez les femmes : si les hommes peuvent perdre plus de poids avec des régimes à faible teneur en glucides, les femmes bénéficient de meilleures améliorations de la flexibilité artérielle.
